Estimated time: 30–40 min
This guide outlines the steps to perform a complete blanket coverage analysis in the Advocate platform, from uploading a Statement of Values through exporting a finished report for the Case file.
What You'll Learn
01 — Upload & Map Your Statement of Values (Steps 1–11)
02 — Configure Policy Parameters (Steps 12–21)
03 — Review Concentration Mapping & Risk (Steps 22–28)
04 — Confirm Compliance & Export Your Report (Steps 29–33)
Phase 1: Upload & Map Your Statement of Values
Step 1: Open the Blanket Analysis Tab
Click the "Blanket Analysis" option on the Case Overview page.
Step 2: Upload the Statement of Values
Click "Click to upload SOV file (Excel, CSV, PDF, or image — or drag and drop here)" to upload the Statement of Values and begin the process.
Step 3: Review the Auto-Detected Columns
The platform automatically detects which columns contain key data fields. Auto-detected columns display a green "Auto-Detected" badge.
If a column is not identified, use the "Select Column" dropdown for that field to map the correct column.
Step 4: Apply the Column Mapping
Once all columns are correctly identified, click "Apply Mapping" to begin the analysis.
Step 5: Confirm the Subject Property
The platform pulls all locations listed on the source SOV into the "SOV Preview." Select which location represents the subject property.
By default, the tool assumes the first row is the subject. If that's not correct, deselect the green checkbox and select the correct property instead.
Step 6: Search for the Subject Property
For a large SOV, use the search function within the "SOV Preview" to search by city, state, or ZIP code. This narrows the list and speeds up the review.
Step 7: Group Locations by Property
If the SOV lists locations at the individual-building level, use the "Group by Location" option. This combines the TIV for all buildings insured under the same city, state, and ZIP code.
Step 8: Review Tier 1 Designations
A "Tier 1" column displays a red "Tier 1" badge based on standard industry classifications used across large insurance programs.
If a location is incorrectly identified as Tier 1, click the red "Tier 1" badge and change the status to "Non-Tier 1."
Step 9: Add a Missing Property
To add a property that was not included on the original SOV, scroll to the bottom of the SOV and enter the City, State, ZIP, and TIV for the additional property.
Step 10: Correct Skipped Properties
A notification banner or badge indicates when properties were skipped, typically because the SOV contains an invalid City, State, or ZIP Code, or a blank or zero TIV. Skipped properties are excluded from the analysis.
To correct a skipped property, click the applicable field (ZIP Code, TIV, City, or State) and enter the correct value. The property is then included in the analysis.
Step 11: Continue to Policy Details
After reviewing the generated properties and values, click "Continue to Policy Details" at the bottom of the page.
Phase 2: Configure Policy Parameters
Step 12: Enter the Blanket Limit and Carrier
With the subject property identified, begin setting the policy parameters by entering the policy's blanket limit.
Enter the leading carrier for the blanket policy.
If the policy includes a sub-limit, click "+ Add Sub-Limit" to add it.
If no sub-limits are entered, the system assumes all perils are included within the blanket limit.
Step 13: Select the Sub-Limited Peril
To add a sub-limited peril, click the "Select an Item" dropdown and choose the applicable peril.
Step 14: Enter the Sub-Limit Amount
Enter the sub-limit amount for the selected peril.
Step 15: Add a Stand-Alone Carrier
To add a stand-alone carrier, click "Add Carrier" and enter the applicable carrier details.
Step 16: Select the Stand-Alone Peril
Click the "Select an Item" dropdown and select the peril the stand-alone carrier corresponds to.
Step 17: Enter the Carrier Name
Enter the stand-alone carrier name into the "Carrier Name" field.
Step 18: Define the Policy Structure
Use the Yes/No toggles to define the policy structure and capture key coverage characteristics that impact the analysis.
Step 19: Run the Analysis
Once all policy parameters are entered, click "Run Analysis."
Step 20: Review the Generated Feedback
The platform generates feedback based on the uploaded SOV and the information entered on the Policy Details screen. This section is fully editable, so details can be added, removed, or adjusted to reflect the final analysis.
The generated feedback always runs the same sub-limit checks and produces the same coverage conclusions for a given SOV. Only the wording of the AI-generated summary may change, and only if it's regenerated.
Step 21: Review the Compliance Checks
Below the feedback section, the compliance checks display key details from the analysis, showing how the coverage aligns with requirements, where deficiencies may exist, and whether the results support compliance or require further review or waiver consideration.
Phase 3: Review Concentration Mapping & Risk
Step 22: Open the Concentration Map
Visual concentration mapping is integrated directly into the Blanket Analysis tool, providing a real-time geographic view of portfolio exposure so users can identify where insured values are concentrated and assess potential accumulation risk.
Step 23: Review the Concentration Heat Map
The concentration map displays every location on the uploaded SOV and shows a heat map of insured value concentrations, from green (minimal concentration) through yellow and orange to red (highest concentration and potential risk).
Hover over a highlighted area to view the combined TIV of all insured locations within that concentration zone.
Step 24: Zoom Into a Concentration Zone
Zoom into a concentration zone using the mouse wheel or the "+" and "−" map controls to isolate individual properties and analyze the locations contributing to the concentration.
Step 25: Adjust the Concentration Radius
Use the "Radius" filter at the top of the Concentration Map to expand or reduce the distance used to evaluate concentration exposure around a location. Available options are 10, 25, 50, and 100 miles.
A larger radius includes more nearby properties and results in a higher aggregated TIV. A smaller radius provides a more localized view of concentration risk.
Step 26: Review the Risk Designation
Once a radius is selected, the system compares the aggregated TIV within that radius to the blanket limit entered in Step 13 and assigns a Low, Medium, or High risk designation.
Step 27: Toggle Between Coverage Types and Filters
Change the concentration mapping to a specific sub-limit, such as "Named Storm" or "Terrorism," to recalculate the analysis using the corresponding limit instead of the overall blanket limit.
Toggle between "Blanket," "Named Storm," and "Terrorism" views to assess exposure from multiple perspectives and determine whether available limits are sufficient for each covered peril.
Additional filters are available under the "Filters" icon.
Use the "Minimum TIV" filter to display only properties above a selected insured value threshold. Available options are Any, $1 Million+, $5 Million+, $10 Million+, and $25 Million+.
Apply additional filters by state and Tier 1 (Coastal Wind) designation to narrow the analysis to specific regions or wind-exposed properties. Multiple filters can be combined for a more targeted view.
Select one or more states from the filter panel to focus on exposures within specific geographic regions. The map, concentration calculations, heat mapping, risk designation, and exposure metrics update automatically based on the filtered locations.
Step 28: Review the Exposure Breakdown
The "Exposure Breakdown" section below the Concentration Map summarizes insured values by State, City, or ZIP Code. Select the applicable tab to view the geographic distribution of TIV at the preferred level of detail.
Phase 4: Confirm Compliance & Export Your Report
Step 29: Review the Blanket Analysis Compliance Checks
The compliance checks below the Concentration Map evaluate the policy against key insurance requirements, summarizing the Subject Property TIV, Blanket Limit, Named Storm Limit, and Highest Tier 1 TIV, along with Yes/No indicators for common compliance tests.
Step 30: Update the Blanket Amount
If the blanket amount was entered incorrectly, click directly into the field and update the amount. The analysis reflects the change without returning to the Policy Details page.
Step 31: Review the Geographic Dispersion Analysis
Below the compliance checks, the geographic dispersion analysis summarizes total TIV by state, breaks out TIV by city and ZIP code, and highlights TIV concentrations within Tier 1 wind zones.
Step 32: Review the Saved Analysis
The platform automatically saves the Blanket Analysis within each loan file, so the analysis does not need to be redone if a limit or detail changes during the review process.
Step 33: Export the Report
Once the review is complete, export the report as a PDF for placement in the loan file.
The blanket coverage analysis is complete.
What Happens Next?
The exported PDF can be placed in the Case file for review or compliance documentation.
The saved analysis remains attached to the case and can be updated if a policy detail or limit changes.
