This guide explains Task Comments in the Advocate Platform and how they're used.
What Are Task Comments?
Task Comments let users leave notes, tag teammates, and attach documents directly on a Task to keep a record of work done on a Case or Policy. A Task must already exist before a comment or document can be added to it.
Where to Find Them
Navigate to a Case's "Overview" tab, open a Task, and scroll to the "Activity" section.
What You'll See
"Add a comment" field – the text box at the bottom of the Activity section of a Task where a new comment is typed.
Globe icon – toggles whether the comment is shared with everyone who has access to the Case, including Managed Service partners, or stays internal-only.
Paperclip icon – attaches a file to the comment being written.
"Comment" button – submits the comment, and any attached file, to the Activity feed.
@mention – tags a specific teammate in a comment to notify them directly.
Note: If someone is tagged in a Task comment, they receive a notification in their platform Inbox.
Attached file – once added to a comment, shows the file name and size, with a “...” menu for file actions.
Activity feed – the chronological log of every action taken on the Task, including comments, status changes, and reassignments.
"This comment was deleted" – placeholder text shown in the Activity feed in place of a comment that has been removed.
Three-dot menu – opens on a comment to reveal Edit comment, Copy link to comment, and Delete comment.
Reply icon – the arrow shown above a published comment; clicking it lets a user reply directly to that specific comment.
Leaving a Comment on a Task
Readers can leave comments on a Task and attach documents to help keep track of the progress a Task has made or to help other teammates take the next action on it.
Attaching a Document to a Comment
Readers can upload documents to a Task comment to help other team members easily find the exact documents needed to action the Task.
Managing a Comment
Users can edit or delete comments they left on a Task, or copy a link to the comment, by clicking the three dots on the comment and selecting from the dropdown menu.
Note: Users can only edit or delete comments they have published.
Replying to a Comment
Users can reply directly to a specific comment by clicking the reply arrow on a published comment.
How It's Used
Users communicate internally amongst their team using Task comments — for example, if one team member handles invoices, they can leave a comment before assigning an Invoice Task to another team member.
After a comment has been left on a Task or documents have been added, check the Task status, assignee, and due date to ensure these are correct and reflect the next action.
If a Task now needs to be actioned by another user, assign the Task to them.
If the comment results in a new due date, update the due date of the Task.
If the comment results in a change of status, update the Task status to completed or cancelled accordingly.
